For certain businesses, there are thousands of alterations that customers can make for seemingly simple products. Each organisation like this needs to streamline their process, making it easier for both customers and themselves.
For our most recent project, this was exactly the task. A car manufacturer in Leicester needed an app that can translate all of the manufactured parts of an alloy wheel into one bill of materials.
For this project, an automated process was needed to ensure that when a component was made, each smaller part, such as its nuts and bolts, was taken into consideration and added to a bill of materials the manufacturer could bill for.
When it comes to offering an accurate price for services, it is vital to encompass an up-to-date, relevant list of the components that are used.
As with every one of our projects, we began the building process with a strategy meeting designed to outline exactly what the client was looking for, and what they wanted to achieve.
Once we understood this brief, we discussed the best tools for the job. Eventually, we settled on the use of the Canvas PowerApp tool, a platform that allows us to build and customise components all the way from a blank canvas to a developed project.
On top of that, we chose to utilise Dataverse within our project. Dataverse is a platform that, as stated by Microsoft: “lets you securely store and manage data that’s used by business applications”.
Once these platforms were decided, it was time to begin the development of this project. Within this process, we outlined an app that would utilise Microsoft’s AI and automation functionalities to outline those components typically used alongside ordered products.
Whilst building this application, we utilised Model-Driven Powerapps to create data entry points, and Canvas Power Apps to add these data points to the bill of materials system. Logic Apps added an automated quote system that encompassed the ability to add delays and amend dates within the system.
The goal, and end result, of this project was to create an end to end system for every car part the client works with. Both encompassing automated systems and manual override options, this app provided a much-needed translation between the parts customers are looking for and the data needed by our client to provide their service.
Finalised with a reporting system that was built in Power BI, this app was designed to be a complex system that numerous platforms worked together to produce.
